BACKGROUND
Hellen is a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution Department and specialises in banking & commercial disputes, arbitration, and general commercial contract matters.
She has been involved in advising both local and international clients in a wide variety of sectors including construction, financial services, insurance, and transport & logistics.
Hellen holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from University of Nairobi and a post-graduate diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
EXPERIENCE
- Part of a team advising and acting for a Kenyan pension scheme in disputes regarding the computation of retirement benefits including defending a judgement by the Retirement Benefits Tribunal for a sum of in excess of KES 7 billion (USD 70 million) by former employees of Telkom Kenya Limited as being the total of their unpaid retirement due.
- Part of a team advising an international subsidiary on the legal and practical effect of its arbitration clauses in its various construction contracts and how they might be redrafted to better secure its interests and expedite dispute resolution.
- Part of the team defending a subsidiary of an international company in an arbitration dispute worth KES 2.4 billion wherein the claimant, a contractor, is claiming against the subsidiary for inter alia payments for profits arising from omitted works, loss profits and payments for idle machinery.
