BACKGROUND
A Partner at Oraro & Company Advocates’ dispute resolution practice, Renee brings a wealth of litigation experience built over the last 25 years with a strong focus on tax litigation.
She has worked in various professional service firms largely comprised of law firms and one audit firm, adding to her rich experience which has seen her act for clients in notable matters such as representing Construction, Real estates, Energy supply, Telecommunication, Manufacturing Companies and Not for Profit Organizations to mention but a few.
In addition, Renee has served as a board member in various reputable institutions such as the Tax Appeal Tribunal, Auctioneers Licensing Board and the Tobacco Control Board. She holds various academic and professional certifications including being a Notary Public, a Certified Public Secretary and a Commissioner for Oaths.
EXPERIENCE
- Advising on Transfer pricing and Thin capitalization to a Credit Company, including preparing a comprehensive opinion and undertaking necessary research on the subject matter
- Representing and preparing for Trial where the tax claim is for KES 18 billion from a manufacturing company dealing in alcoholic beverages. The assignment involved witness pretrial preparations and finalization of witness statements, attending Tribunal meetings and making required representations to have the matter proceed to its ultimate conclusion
- Part of the team representing a major grain importer in a tax dispute at the Tax Appeal Tribunal with KRA for tax demand in the amount of KES 21.4 million and currently defending KRA’s appeal at the High Court.
- Advising an International School on how to structure and validate the salary project tool and taxable benefit on gains or profit of employment income.
